  • Yeah. It has for quite a while. My phone upgraded its kernel from v4.19 to 6.6.30 and finally to 6.6.82. I too was surprised seeing it updated from an outdated kernel to a more recent version.

  • It should. For general, usage most smartphones are fine. My phone has less processing power than your phone. But, thanks to 12GB of RAM and fast UFS 3.1 storage it handles 98% of tasks without lag. Only those needing high CPU and GPU power like local LLM models or high end games which require more horse power have a hard time.

  • Good to know your phone with your PC CPU from 2009 still works fine.

Joke aside, phones at that time barely got any updates. Pixel phone starting from series 6 was one of those which had longer update cycle than average. Nowadays, you easily get 6-8 years of software and security updates.

It can improve. But, hardware level support is not that great compared to a desktop computer. So, we have these short support cycles.

  • TL;DR

    • A new leak claims Google is preparing to upgrade the Linux kernel on most Tensor-based Pixel phones to version 6.12.

    • The new kernel could potentially bring real performance and efficiency improvements, thanks in part to Google’s AutoFDO.

    • Judging by the leak, the Pixel 6 will not receive the update

5 Years is still respectable when support for most phones ended at the 3 year mark for phones launched at that time period.

  • Jury's still out, last I heard, on whether fast charging every day hurts a battery or not.

It does not. Slow charging actually hurts the battery more. You should watch the HTX video who did extensive testing and the conclusion was, use the phone however you want. Keeping it charged between 20%-80% kept better battery health. But, you were better off not worrying about it at all.

  • TL;DR

    • Android Canary 2606 adds Google’s upcoming Screen Reactions feature.

    • The feature lets you record your screen and yourself simultaneously, with your camera feed overlaid on the recording.

    • Users can choose between a transparent background or six different background colors for their selfie overlay

  • Motorola has not made any comments about this link hijacking issue.

  • When motorola operates and sells in foreign countries. It has to abide by those countries rules. Unless, you buy china only phones with china ROM I wouldn't worry about that.

But, ads and this shady affiliate redirect is serious. I would install apps like PersonalDNSFilter or Adguard to make sure you protected some.

  • I use KeepassDX and it works fine for my use case.

  • I was expecting this as the main thing being released instead of whatever google shared at the I/O event. Especially, with that translucent android.

Leak shows Android 17 with custom color picker for Material You, preset variants, blur

  • The phone itself is a massive downgrade. The chip is barely an upgrade over the CE4 and a downgrade in GPU and major downgrade in chip performance compared to the CE5.

It also does not have true AOD. Making it expensive and an expensive phone with regressions making it useless. Instead of the 144hz display a good quality 120hz would've been better if it meant not cutting down features.

  • As far as the GPU goes, Tensor G6 isn’t looking all that much better than Tensor G5, with an Imagination/PowerVR C-Series CXTP-48-1536 GPU. This appeared in some previous leaks, and it’s still an outdated GPU that dates back to 2021. It’s unclear if Google is perhaps using a newer variant, but it’s an outdated setup nonetheless, and one that’s sure to rub enthusiasts the wrong way.

5 Yrs old GPU. How cheap can you be?

  • Because like Iphones most android phones do not support sdcard expansion. You need to get a budget android or an Expensive sony phone to have this feature.

  • You are willingly giving away your data if you are not blocking trackers in your web browser and android apps.

I recommend Firefox +Ublock-origin for web browser and apps liker PersonalDNSFilter or Adguard android app if you can get a license for HTTPS filtering.

  • That's most people in general.
