I think the point is if what they believe in is a string of randomly connected bits of fiction, it’s not too much of a leap to think that they would omit or include a new bit of fiction to fit whatever the situation currently is.
Honestly this is the sort of thing that LLMs are really, really good at: You’re combining current events with bullshit stories anyway, so who cares if the output is a little bullshit?
A couple years ago I worked for a robotics startup that I learned got their start by 100% faking a demo for early customers. They had some magic box that an item would lower into and then the device would “scan” the item and spit out a bunch of data about it. It was entirely fake, the data was predetermined. That landed them a few early series investments that allowed them to do some “real” work. The founders were proud of this sham enabling them to start a company. Whole thing made me sick.
I lived there a while ago. Emeryville is what, several miles from the end of the bridge? Pleasure riding sure, but as the article said, no one is actually using these to get to work.
Honestly unsure what they were thinking with a 5 mile bike lane where the major population centers are a few miles from each end of the bridge and with no safe bike infrastructure between the bridge and those pop centers. Sure you can ride across the bridge but…to where? This project almost feels designed to fail and make bikes look bad.
