  • I'm enjoying the pen support on Razr Fold! Motorola carrying the torch. I find it more useful than on my S24 ultra due to the extra screen real estate

  • I have it; got it as a trade in for my S24 ultra. I have been on Samsung for a decade and was getting a little bored. The phone is great so far. Folding is a revelation. The phone feels more comfortable in my hand than the S24U, which is kind of a small tablet and just not as reasonable to hold to my face. Then you unfold it and the screen is glorious for multitasking and opening apps like Voyager for Lemmy, Thunderbird, Google Calendar in tablet mode. I got the pen and can see myself actually taking notes and annotating PDFs on this thing, where that was not feasible on the S24U. The cameras are pretty good, though I do miss the 5x telephoto from my Samsung and I have had to find ways to tamp down the overprocessing of photos. Impressed with the macro capability! I do find myself missing some things about Samsung, like the excellent Good Lock suite, and it is remarkable how much of the functionality of my Galaxy Watch is tied to Samsung, but overall no regrets so far.

  • True, it's IP-based, but RCS can fall back to SMS which is handy sometimes

  • it's not about selling it as a product. it's about determining what molecular pathways are interchangeable between plants, fungus and animals.

  • They synthesize a ton of stuff with bacteria these days! Bacteria are really good at making almost any compound you can think of! I think with this study, part of the novelty was harnessing multiple molecular pathways in animals, fungus and plants, all with with analogs in a single plant. A lot of the paper was about discussing the different enzymes available in the plant, like a kind of toolkit that just had to be tweaked

  • Yes, this is basic research, which generally starts with common model organisms that many labs have access to. This increases reproducibility of the early results. The study mentions expression of the relevant genes and proteins in the buds as well, and also calls out one of the pathways in tomato, so perhaps the next step could be to test it in other nightshades and their fruit

  • The secret is that being evil makes life pretty easy, compared to actually trying to contribute to the world. Being a ruthless and shameless thief, plus a lot of luck, has allowed him to gather absurd quantities of wealth. There's no talent needed in this screwed up system

  • IIRC there is a whole industry that builds them custom, often out of fiberglass

  • It is awkward for a prof to be in world news for romantically chasing after a mentee, asking for advice from someone he knew was a convicted sex predator. Then he is expected to lead a lecture. Maybe you've never led a college lecture, but I can assure you from experience that would be a very difficult situation. Maintaining an environment of respect between professor and students is already difficult in normal circumstances
