  • I'm not sure if it's still the case but the updates on older MacBooks used to essentially brick them because they made them so slow. I know several Apple users who refuse to update their device unless forced to because of this fear.

  • I don't really associate the privacy/security crowd with foldable phones, though. They still seem to be a very niche product that only interests the "tech enthusiast" crowd and people looking for a status symbol. I feel like most GrapheneOS users would be more than happy with a standard Pixel or Motorola without any of the flashy/gimmicky stuff.

  • On top of that, there’s the looming arrival of Apple’s first foldable. While Android devices will benefit from the legitimacy that an “iPhone Fold” will bring to the foldable market, it’s also going to bury anyone who didn’t get a head start. Motorola not only needs to convince prospective foldable buyers that it has a better option than Samsung and Google – which I feel it does – but also not to wait for Apple’s release, a conversation we wouldn’t have had if Motorola had launched this device a year ago, or even back in January when it was first unveiled.

    Key point here, and one I agree with. As soon as Apple releases a foldable, the others are cooked.

  • Yeah, maybe I'm missing something but smart watches in general seem like one of the biggest examples of big tech successfully convincing consumers that "more tech in your life is good", even when it's not actually doing anything new or useful for them. I'm definitely not convinced at all by health tracking for normal people, it's pretty obviously a massive data hoarding exercise that offers very little in return.

  • Surely you know if you slept well, though? Like I can definitely tell the difference, the body gives a lot of signals. Unless you have significant health problems, the preparation for getting a good sleep and developing a long-term healthy sleep pattern is pretty universal and well understood.

Everyone I know who wears a watch to bed and obsesses over the "sleep score" just ends up stressed by the results, which makes them feel even more pressure to get a good score the following night. Sleep should not be gamified, it just compounds any problems that exist.
