New Orleans residents were caught off guard Wednesday night as two large, low-flying jets flew thunderously across the city, shaking homes and startling many winding down for the evening.
The blaring noise, which came around 10 p.m., sent Uptown and Mid-City residents to social media to raise questions about what could be flying overhead.
The Louisiana National Guard confirmed Thursday that the two F-15C planes were theirs. A spokesperson said the planes were conducting training exercises, which started Tuesday and will continue through Thursday.

At the Chloe, a boutique hotel in a restored, 19th-century mansion on St. Charles Avenue, folks staying in two of the 14 rooms came down to find out what was happening, said Desiree Pesce, rooms director. Was it a jet? A streetcar?
"No, probably not the streetcar," Pesce said Thursday with a chuckle.
