"No, maybe that wasn’t it. Words precede and surpass me, they tempt and alter me, and if I am not careful it will be too late: things will be said without my having said them. Or, at the very least, that wasn’t the only thing. My entanglement comes from how a carpet is made of so many threads that I can’t resign myself to following just one; my ensnarement comes from how one story is made of many stories. And I can’t even tell them all— a more truthful word could from echo to echo cause my highest glaciers to crumble down the precipice." - Clarice Lispector

  • I have many problems with the US military, I consider the US as a military empire, but for the most part I do not think the professional core of the US military desires this. Even if the politics of many of those military personnel are on the face of it conservative, they do not want this especially when it actually starts happening. These strikes are an attempt to drive a division and set warhawks and the military against the rest of US society in the US as much as they are an outward projection of violence, Republicans are desperately trying to completely transform the military into a rightwing murder machine and alienate it from the rest of US society and I wouldn't underestimate how little the US public and bulk of the US military desires this outcome especially in such an economically desperate moment for the US. In order for the US military to become fundamentally a rightwing murder machine it must shed its professionalism, and there are a whole lot of people who no matter their politics can see that process as plain as day happening and correctly understand it is a form of extinction for the professionalism of what they do.

What I am trying to say is that the executive branch is FORCING the military to murder, and the military should absolutely be held accountable for fulfilling illegal orders but yes the key issue here is that the US government is corrupted from the top down here. Pete Hegseth is a wildly dangerous person to have as Secretary Of War both because he is extraordinarily incompetent and because he harbors an extremely hateful world view that will demand the systems he controls commit murder for utterly frivolous reasons.

  • The attacks are broadly a blatant attempt to start another Iraq War 2, which is disgusting on the face of it.

In specific though, the thing that makes it a fact that Pete Hegseth is a murderer is at least some of these strikes hit a powerboat once with a missile and then after survivors were clinging to wreckage and flailing in the water Pete Hegseth ordered a second strike to kill the survivors who were now helpless and in need of emergency rescue.

This is considered by most militaries and societies the world over as a warcrime/murder because it is.

  • One of the iron laws of theater is that once a piece of bread touches you as an audience member, you own the bread.

  • I think it would make a good blackbox theater production with the interesting caveat that any theater putting it on has to give tickets out to people for free who agree to have a baguette lightly thrown at them.

  • Honestly, the FBI has been doing brainworms shit for decades. This is way worse now obviously but lets not retcon the former legitimacy of the FBI. It is NOT there to keep us safe and it never has been. The FBI always has been a tool of oppression for the rightwing.

  • Ultimately the US was... by its own cancerous military industrial complex.

  • It is time for us all to step the fuck up and protect trans people, ESPECIALLY if you yourself aren't trans.

  • I dunno, everyone I know who has moved there has eventually been kilted by the locals.

  • Pathetic

  • Why? So he can see historians celebrating more men in history who didn't deserve their power or fame?

  • I don't think people understand how fucked people who don't fit the societal mold of how their body or mind should function are here in the US, things are about to get very grim in the US, much grimmer than they were. The center of this society has decided what they don't like about Trump and fascism are primarily its harsh tone as he and other rightwing nutjobs murder us. The expression of how little I am worth to the society around me is not lost on me, it is only lost on the centrists who tone police me for being negative about my future.

What societies like mine do as they collapse is tend to see diversity as a threat to the survival of the society, including cognitive diversity. This is a phenomena old as time and centrists have NEVER resisted it once. As someone with severe ADHD it is crystal clear to me a brickwall is heading at me and I know especially with my executive dysfunction there is no way I am dodging it.

I have never been able to hide, if you have a brain like me you knew from a young age it was dangerous to let people think you did weird things because they felt normal to you, so you became the class clown and learned to love it even even as deep down you remember that lesson in your bones you can never forgot. If I let people see how chaotic my brain really is, as in what I turned into a joke was truly me just reacting to my own impulsivenes with clever impulsiveness, they will insist on hurting me, "I have to make this goofy or I will be hurt" is the way I survived.

The thing is, there are no class clowns left in a fascist society, so in a way this is me saying goodbye. I will still be present here for a long time yet, but the true me is dying right now. I am not a creature that can hide, people burst out laughing when I do and then an ache in my soul reminds me of the lesson I can never forget.

  • Holy shit we are definitely living in a satire simulation running as a VR experience for people living in a less funny but just as brutal reality.

Like holy shit you can't write this shit, this has got to have people at The Onion quaking in their papery and layered exteriors.
