Actually, this town has more than enough room for the two of us

He/him or they/them, doesn't matter too much

Interested in Marxism-Leninism, but don't know where to start? Check out my Read Theory, Darn it! introductory reading list!

  • I'm confused why people are surprised at this, to be honest. It's entirely expected.

  • I'd love it if that happened, but that would also mean the dissolution of NATO, so I don't see why NATO would motion to kill itself voluntarily.

  • White supremacy is a huge factor, for sure, but don't discount the economic factor; the US economy is built on imperialism, and without it would crumble.

  • The Albanians were also committing extreme ethnic violence against the Serbs. When NATO bombed Yugoslavia, it killed over 300 Albanian civilians and over 1700 Serbian civilians, destroyed 164 state-owned factories, and bypassed UN approval against NATO's own charter. Not a single private, pro-western factory was bombed.

The real reason NATO bombed Yugoslavia was because Yugoslavia refused to become a colony. Yugoslavia had agreed to give up Kosovo, but wanted the FRY to retain political and economic soveriegnty, and prevent NATO occupation. NATO countered by wanting full access to the FRY's communication, infrastructure, and territory. Yugoslavia refused, and then NATO bombed them.

NATO involvement was about economics, not a humanitarian concern. NATO wanted open and full access to as many markets as possible, even if it meant bombing those who go against them in any real way. Just like what's going on with Israel and the US bombing Iran, and NATO countries like the UK and France assisting Israel in air defense.

  • There was immense nationalism and ethnic violence on all sides, which NATO used as justification to bomb thousands of civilians to death along with key infrastructure in order to prop up a western-friendly regime. NATO intervention didn't help the awful situation, it only steered the outcome into the favor of the west at the expense of war crimes.

  • Even better, thanks! Truth Social wasn't working on my phone, lol

  • Here's France 24 reporting on it. Trump posted the tweet, it looks like, whether he made it up or not isn't yet known. Neither option would be unsurprising. Not sure what your bone to pick with Lemmy.ml is. Plus, you made the authoritative claim that it's fake, if you suspect it's fake then just say that, don't pretend you have definitive proof if you don't.

  • He absolutely would, NATO is seen very negatively in the global south due to its constant aggression and its role in maintaining western imperialism. Just look at what happened to Libya, Yugoslavia, and even covert ops like Operation GLADIO.

  • This is Lemmy.ml's World News community. Lemmy.ml users are not brigading their own World News community, lmao. The large proportion of Marxists on Lemmy.ml does lead to an anti-western bias, if you want a pro-western bias there are other World News communities like on Lemmy.world.

If you have proof that it's fake I would like to see it, but this is a real truth social post from Trump even if he's lying.

  • Trump has also leaked private messages before.

  • If Trump took the US out of NATO, he would genuinely be remembered as the harm reduction candidate for the Global South. Sadly, Trump would never actually be anti-NATO, US Imperialism depends too greatly on it.

  • NATO is just a millitary alliance for the purpose of maintaining Western Imperialism, which is headed by the US Empire.

  • It isn't really a quiet part, though, never has been. NATO has openly been a millitary alliance for the purpose of maintaining Western Imperialism headed by the US, no more and no less, since its inception.

  • It's entirely expected, not sure why you're in disbelief.

  • I think you're confused, I'm a communist, I despise the US Empirevand condemn the war. Further, Israel doesn't control the US, the US supports Israel because Israel is like a giant millitary base for the US to terrorize its geopolitical adversaries.

  • To be fair, the US isn't a democracy at all, and even among USians this war is extremely unpopular.

  • No, economic factors matter far more. Religion is often used as an excuse, or plays some role, but the real drive is access to trade or resources or labor in the vast majority of cases.

  • Religion isn't the cause, the mode of production is. Economic factors are far more important when it comes to war, including this one.

  • Doubt it. Climate change is already happening, but we can mitigate its effects the earlier we tackle it. Plus, no idea who is floating the collapse idea around.
